Every single indicator means something.
It's important to understand that if the light comes on while driving, it could mean a fault, so it's important to get it right.
What kind of indicators are shown on the meter?
There are various types of indicators, such as those relating to fuel, water temperature and devices controlling the engine.
Yes! Are the indicators displayed the same on all bikes?
The indicator on the display changes depending on the bike. I'd check the owner's manual to see which indicators are implemented.
I'll give you some main examples of what indicators are available then!
Index
1.Low fuel indicator
The low fuel indicator illuminates when the petrol in the fuel tank is low. If the low fuel indicator flashes, refuel as soon as possible. Running out of fuel will prevent the engine from firing and may damage the catalytic converter.
How much fuel is left when this indicator comes on?
The remaining fuel depends on the type of vehicle.
This is also mentioned in the owner's manual, so check it!
2.Coolant temperature indicator
If the coolant temperature indicator comes on while driving or idling, the vehicle may be overheating. Continued driving in an overheated condition may cause engine failure. If this happens, immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place and follow the instructions in the owner's manual for treatment and checking.
I heard that the coolant temperature indicator may come on even when idling for long periods of time, is this true?
That's one way to think about it.
If there are no abnormalities, the vehicle may be drivable, but get it inspected by a Honda dealer as soon as possible, even if the abnormality doesn't recur.
3.Low oil pressure indicator
If the low oil pressure indicator comes on while driving or idling, the engine oil pressure may be low. Continued driving with low oil pressure may cause engine failure. If the low oil pressure indicator comes on, stop the engine immediately and treat/check it according to the owner's manual.
I found out that the low oil pressure indicator can come on momentarily under sudden acceleration.
Yes. If the light does not go off after taking action, consult a Honda dealer.
4.PGM-FI malfunction indicator lamp
What does PGM-FI mean?
It stands for Programmed Fuel Injection System and means an electronically controlled fuel injection system.
The ideal use of fuel is always controlled based on atmospheric conditions and engine speed, so that fuel is supplied in the optimum quantity and at the optimum timing to ensure efficient engine performance.
If the PGM-FI malfunction indicator lamp comes on/flashes while driving, the following reasons may be possible
・Comes on if there is a problem with the engine emissions control system.
・Blinks when engine misfiring is detected.
This section explains how to deal with the CRF1100F as an example.
When the light is on ...
Do not drive at high speeds and have the vehicle inspected by a Honda dealer immediately.
Driving with the PGM-FI malfunction indicator lamp illuminated may damage the emission control system and engine.
When it flashes ...
Stop the vehicle in a safe place free from combustible materials, stop the engine for at least 10 minutes and wait until it cools down. If the PGM-FI flashes again after starting the engine, drive to the nearest Honda dealer at a speed of 50 km/h or less to have it checked.
5.ABS indicator
What does ABS mean?
Abbreviation for Anti-lock Brake System, a device that detects tyre locking during braking and quickly restores tyre rotation speed to maintain vehicle stability.
If the ABS indicator goes into any of the following conditions, consult your Honda dealer as there may be a system malfunction.
・Indicator comes on or starts flashing while riding.
・Indicator does not come on when the ignition switch is in the (On) position.
・Indicator does not go off at speeds above 10 km/h (6 mph).
If the ABS indicator stays on, your brakes will continue to work as a conventional system, but without the anti-locking function.
If the ABS indicator is off and the rear wheel is idling with the rear wheel lifted, the warning light may flash. In this case, turn the main switch Off and then turn the main switch On again. The ABS indicator will go off after your speed reaches 30 km/h (19 mph).
6.HISS indicator
What does HISS mean?
HISS stands for Honda Ignition Security System, which is an anti-theft system that prevents the engine from being started except with a registered key, right?
In vehicles equipped with HISS, when the main switch is switched On with the engine stop switch in Run, the HISS indicator illuminates and turns off after a few seconds to indicate that the engine can be started. If the light does not go off, the engine cannot be started.
The HISS indicator starts flashing at 2-second intervals after the main switch is switched Off and turns off after 24 hours.
The meter's setting function can be used to switch between flashing and non-flashing HISS displays etc.
7.summary.
There are various indicators on the motorcycle as indicated above. Details are given in the respective owner's manuals, so look at them and take appropriate action.
The meanings of the various indicators are now perfect.
We've got to make sure we understand what each one means, and we've got to deal with it calmly.
Enjoy your life with safe riding!
