To Realize a Zero Traffic Collision Society
Honda's vision of a collision-free society is one in which all people can move freely guided by their curiosity, with a sense of security and peace of mind.
In April 2021, Honda announced its goal of achieving zero fatalities in traffic accidents involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles globally by 2050.
Honda is working to Realize a Zero Traffic Collision Society, not only as its social responsibility, but also to realize a joyful future for all.
Honda will continue to actively evolve its traffic safety initiatives based on accident conditions in each region.
Honda’s Global Safety Slogan - Safety for Everyone
Honda’s global safety slogan “Safety for Everyone" reflects the company’s commitment to pursuing safety personalized to each individual, and its belief that by improving the safety of every member of society, a safer society as a whole will result, realizing a collision-free society.
Honda Safety Goals Scenario toward the Realization of “Zero Traffic Collision Fatalities” by 2050
Honda aims for zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles*1 globally by 2050. As a milestone, Honda targets reducing worldwide traffic fatalities involving its vehicles halving by 2030 compared to 2020 levels*2. This includes not only new vehicles but all registered Honda motorcycles and automobiles on the market.
- Traffic collision involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles (rider, driver and passengers), as well as pedestrians and bicycles as other involved parties (excluding intentional violation of traffic rules with malicious intent and cases of willful incapacitated status due to use of alcohol, drugs, or other substances)
- Halve the number of traffic collision fatalities per 10,000 vehicles involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles worldwide in 2030 compared to 2020
- Traffic collision involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles (rider, driver and passengers), as well as pedestrians and bicycles as other involved parties (excluding intentional violation of traffic rules with malicious intent and cases of willful incapacitated status due to use of alcohol, drugs, or other substances)
- Halve the number of traffic collision fatalities per 10,000 vehicles involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles worldwide in 2030 compared to 2020
Direction
Honda is addressing various factors leading to collisions by evolving and combining “Human Ability (awareness-building activities),” “Mobility Performance (technological development),” and “Traffic Ecosystem (collaboration, development of systems/services).”—collectively referred to as the three elements of safety. These measures align with the “Safe System Approach” recently recommended by the United Nations to various countries, which is to promote safety measures with technologies and activities in various areas in response to a single collision case. Additionally, these three elements of safety are established as material issues that Honda must address.
Honda’s Three Elements of Safety
Human Ability
The cornerstone of traffic safety is people. Since the establishment of the Traffic Safety Promotion Operations in 1970, Honda has been actively involved in traffic safety awareness building activities targeting not only riders and drivers but also everyone sharing the road, from children to the elderly. These activities are based on the principles of passing safety education from person to person and providing participatory hands-on education to improve human abilities, not only in driving skills and cognitive judgment ability but also in aspects such as empathy and consideration for others. Furthermore, based on these principles, Honda will use digital tools and generative AI to evolve these activities into “safety education customized for each individual” that is tailored to each person’s awareness, abilities, experience level, and physical capabilities.
Mobility Performance
To further elevate the safety of mobility, Honda believes that integrated performance which complements and expands human capabilities is essential. Such performance includes technologies that protect the human body, avoid collisions, and detect and share driver intentions among vehicles and their surroundings.
Honda, as a leader in safety technology with a Human-Centric Thinking, will continue to evolve its technological development to gain an even deeper understanding of people and to be more closely attuned to their wishes.
Traffic Ecosystem
In a traffic environment that is constantly changing due to traffic congestion and accidents, landslides and icy roads, Honda believes that preventing accidents requires a dynamic understanding of the aspects of the traffic ecosystem, consisting of infrastructure and traffic participants, and the smooth coordination between these entities is vital.
To this end, Honda will actively participate in research and development, cooperation with national and local governments, and co-create with partner companies.

Honda Receives Highest Ranking of 3 Stars as Part of FIA Road Safety Index,
Tool for Organizations and Companies to Measure Their Road Safety Footprint
Honda became the first company in the automotive industry to receive the highest ranking of “3 stars,” as part of the FIA*1 Road Safety Index, set forth by the FIA to enable businesses and organizations to measure their road safety footprint.
The FIA Road Safety (RS) Index is a new tool designed to enable companies and organizations to visualize and measure the impact of their operations on road safety and achieve more sustainable road traffic.

NCAP:
Many of Honda’s models have received the highest safety ratings in safety assessments conducted in countries and regions around the world.
Safety assessments are conducted by third-party organizations in various countries and regions to evaluate passive and active safety performance, among other factors, with the aim of reducing harm caused by traffic accidents.
