Human Ability
Preventing Accidents through Traffic Safety Awareness Activities that Focus on People
Honda believes that its awareness raising activities need to enhance human ability, such as driving skills to psychological and mental aspects, cognition, judgement, and compassion and manners towards others, for all people involved in traffic society.
Honda will build upon its existing principles of “safety handed down from person to person” and “participatory experiential education” to evolve into awareness-building optimized to individual awareness, experience levels and physical capabilities.
History
Honda’s safety driving education for riders and drivers started in Japan, and in the 1970s, when it was estimated that many accidents were occurring among young people, safety education programs for junior and senior high school students were developed, followed by family motorcycle classes and safety education programs for the elderly. Overseas activities also began to be developed around the same time, starting with Brazil.
Main Activities
In order to reach its 2030 milestone, Honda believes that expanding opportunities to support all participants in the traffic society through high quality programs is vital for its awareness activities. As of March 2023, Honda is conducting safety driving education activities in 43 countries and regions around the world including Japan, training of instructors and conducting awareness programs at traffic education centers and dealerships in each region.

Toward the Future
Honda is utilizing a program consisting of its knowhow since the 1970s, using ICT tools such as smartphones, to enable people to deepen their understanding at any time, at any location.
In 2023, Honda released the Honda Driver Coaching app to support the learning of safety driving. This app analyzes driver's actions such as steering, braking, and acceleration in real time, and advises the driver when support is needed. Once training is complete, a driving score is given, with driving tips and an overview of their current driving skill level.
In the future, Honda plans to conduct field tests aiming to roll out a safety driving coaching system for riders in emerging countries.
Furthermore in emerging countries, Honda will also collaborate with transportation agencies, national governments, and other mobility industries to improve laws and regulations, including licensing systems and traffic rules.
