Mid-Size Supersports Equally Capable for Racing and Touring

In March 1987, the line-off ceremony for the new CBR600F, CBR750F, and CBR1000F models was held at the Hamamatsu Factory. Of these, the CBR600F / 1000F were Honda’s first CBR models manufactured for export.

The CBR600F was developed with Honda’s advanced racing technology. The chassis featured a rigid twin-tube frame with a full fairing for superior aerodynamics. Its liquid-cooled 4-stroke 4-valve 4-cylinder 600 cc DOHC engine was designed for sports riding on race tracks, but was just as capable for enjoying the city streets and going on long tours.

Among the various displacement categories in Europe, the 600 cc mid-sized bike was particularly popular with a wide range of users, and competition was fierce in this category where other manufacturers frequently introduced new, ambitious models.

The CBR600F demonstrated its high potential by competing in production races held throughout Europe and the United States, thanks to Honda continuously refining and evolving it to enhance overall performance.

In Japan, the CBR600F was launched in 1992. The CBR600F, with its high performance and easy-to-manage chassis size, contributed to the expansion of sports fans and became a long-selling hit, with cumulative production exceeding 310,000 units by the end of November 1999.

In September 2000, the CBR600F4i equipped with PGM-FI (electronically controlled fuel injection) was announced in Europe to comply with stricter emission regulations. In Japan, it was launched in March 2001. The CBR600F4i combined high-performance with environmental performance, and the CBR evolved into a brand ideal for the new era.
