Electric Parking Brake and Automatic Brake Hold

Parking brake control at your fingertips
Electric parking brakes require less force to operate than conventional hand brakes and foot brakes, which employ cables. A flick of the parking brake switch with your fingertip is all that is needed to apply the parking brake with certainty, and the brake is automatically released simply by stepping on the accelerator pedal. This reduces the driving burden in a variety of scenarios. It also removes the need for a parking brake lever or pedal, helping to unclutter the space.
Automatic Brake Hold
Turn on the Brake Hold switch in advance and the vehicle will automatically maintain a stopped position even when the brake pedal is released. This means the driver does not have to bother about keeping their foot on the brake pedal. The brake is automatically released when the driver steps on the accelerator, allowing a smooth restart after waiting at a traffic light or in heavy traffic.
On steep slopes or slippery roads, the vehicle might move when the
driver’s foot is taken off the brake pedal even though Automatic Brake
Hold is activated.
When parking, make sure to shift the gear into “P” position.

Automatic Brake Hold operation

Appropriate control of parking brake and hydraulic brakes according to the situation
When the driver pulls back the parking brake switch, actuators (motors) mounted in the rear brakes activate the parking brake. The operating force of the parking brake is automatically optimized, the gradient having been ascertained from information from a sensor that detects forward and backward acceleration. Besides automatically releasing when the accelerator pedal is pressed, the parking brake can also be released manually by pushing down the parking brake switch while stepping on the brake pedal. It is also possible to activate the hydraulic brakes in front and rear wheels by pulling and holding back the parking brake switch while moving.
Electric Parking Brake system configuration

If Automatic Brake Hold is on and the vehicle is stopped by stepping on the brake pedal with the gearshift in “D” (or “S” or “B”) position, systems such as VSA and electric servo braking are used to maintain braking of the front and rear wheels. After 10 minutes, or if the driver’s seatbelt is released, Automatic Brake Hold is cancelled and the parking brake is automatically activated.
