Realize “Strong Products, Strong Mono-zukuri (the Art of Manufacturing) and Strong Businesses” and “Serve People Worldwide with the Joy of Expanding Life’s Potential for All People”
— Achieving Sustained Growth and Evolution by Undertaking Actions Imbued with the Perspective of Resolving Social Issues
I would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for your cooperation and tremendous support for Honda’s activities.
During 2019, we succeeded in bringing joy to some 30 million customers worldwide by offering attractive products and services across all our businesses, namely motorcycles, automobiles, life creation, aircraft and aircraft engines.
In 2017, Honda formulated the 2030 Vision. Toward the realization of “Serve people worldwide with the ‘joy of expanding their life’s potential’,” we are undertaking initiatives to solidify our existing businesses and plant seeds for future growth. Also, in 2019, Honda announced a medium- to long-term direction of initiatives for the realization of our 2030 Vision.
Honda defines mainly three values that should be realized through these initiatives:
1) carbon-free technology needed to realize a sustainable society; 2) collision-free technology seeking to eliminate traffic accidents; and 3) Honda eMaaS technology that expands life’s potential.
Along with promoting the evolution of mobility, Honda has been pushing ahead with the development of relevant technologies in the energy and robotics fields as well. Honda eMaaS is a business ecosystem that combines mobility and energy throughout society by mutually connecting our technology resources accumulated in these fields in mobility services and in our daily lives. For more details, please refer to the section entitled “Direction for Realizing the 2030 Vision” of this report.
With a view to accelerating our efforts to solidify our existing businesses and plant seeds for future growth, Honda has been transforming its operational structure since April 2020. Details are provided in the section entitled “Changes in Operating System in Business Domains and R&D Domains” of this report.
Through these changes in business operating systems, Honda has been strengthening business operations in each domain and working toward the realization of “strong products, strong Mono-zukuri and strong businesses.” At the same time, we seek to achieve sustained growth and evolution by engaging more strongly in resolving social issues, which we have been pursuing since our founding.
The spread of COVID-19 has forced the world to make drastic changes while having a major impact on Honda’s corporate activities in many ways. We believe the disease has the potential to greatly alter people’s sense of values and transform societies significantly.
An unprecedented degree of uncertainty persists and therefore renders it difficult to forecast the future outlook. Under such circumstances, we intend to steadily carry out various measures we have been undertaking. At the same time, in the post-COVID-19 world we will remain committed to serving people worldwide with the “joy of expanding their life’s potential” through our products and services. That, I believe, is a mission given to Honda.
Even amid the global changes, we intend to ensure our sustainable growth in the future by continuing to dedicate ourselves to environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives. In addition to these initiatives, we also lay out our efforts in contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in this report.
