Hope Primary School
SDG 1 : No poverty, 16 : Peace, justice and strong institutions

In the wake of the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, Honda Motor and Honda group companies in China decided to donate JPY 115 million to support the earthquake relief and reconstruction work in the earthquake-stricken area. The company cooperated with its partners such as suppliers and dealers in donating over RMB 9 million to build Dongfeng Honda Inspiration Primary School in the Maoxian earthquake-stricken area of Sichuan. This school covers an area of 15,000 square meters and has a floor area of 4,300 square meters. The construction includes a teaching building with complete teaching facilities, playground and stands. After one year of construction work, the Inspiration School was formally delivered for use on August 31, 2009. The school can offer 24 classes and accommodate 1,200 students.

Honda Dream Fund
SDG 1 : No poverty, 4 : Quality education

On September 11, 2017, SCLF & Honda Dream Fund, established by Honda and the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, was formally launched in the former residence of Comrade Soong Ching Ling in Beijing. The project is funded by Honda to provide support and assistance to young people in poor families who dare to dream and dare to fulfill their dreams, encouraging them to embrace their passion and vitality at all times, and to use their imagination in order to inspire and nurture creative and challenging spirits, create more hope and possibility throughout their entire lives, and create new values that are ahead of the times.

In April 2018, the Honda Dream Fund announced the first group of 8 dream students who have a variety of dreams. The second group of students was announced in March 2019. For two years in a row, the Honda Dream Fund has supported 16 students chasing their dreams and more youngsters will continue to benefit in the future.

Unlike traditional forms of public welfare, the Honda Dream Fund emphasizes the long-term effectiveness of personal support, and focuses on investment in time and money. The fund not only supports young people to achieve self-worth, but also expects them to play a leading role in this process. This will allow more young people to feel the power of their dreams. The Honda Dream Fund selects poor university students in colleges and universities. While taking into account the low starting point, weak competition, and slow development of the remote areas and higher vocational colleges, some middle and western vocational colleges were selected to carry out key cooperation and make efforts to help students strive to pass. The high credibility of the fund leads to the flow of resources, generating more attention and participation from social forces.

Afforestation Project
SDG 15 : Life on land

Honda CHINA has been participating in tree planting activities in Xinghe County for 11 years since 2008. It is estimated that over 2,000 employees from Honda participated in the tree planting project, afforesting an area of more than 1,060 ha and with 1,600,000 plants during these years. Approximately 2,500 tons of CO2 are absorbed each year by this new vegetation. Thanks to the thorough study of the soil and climate features, combined with the accumulation of knowledge about planting in arid regions, we have finally met the national standard for the survival rate of seedlings used in afforestation. Where there used to be nothing but a barren area, it is now covered with forest.

The project has been in operation for 3 terms. The first and second terms lasted from 2008 to 2017 when over 140,000 saplings were planted in the 14,000 mu area. The third term began in 2018 and will continue until 2022. We plan to spend 20 million on planting saplings such as Chinese pine and pinus sylvestris, and intend to achieve the goal of afforesting 7,000 mu of land in this area. Those trees that are planted by employees from Honda and local people will act as a green umbrella for the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, helping to prevent natural disasters such as sand storms and haze caused by soil erosion due to insufficient green coverage.

Children’s Traffic Safety Training Camp
SDG 4 : Quality education

Traffic Safety Education conducted by Dongfeng Honda Automobile Co., Ltd. has firmly instilled the public welfare concepts of “total involvement, serving society and sharing in joy” through positive publicizing of traffic safety knowledge, dissemination of emergency care skills , and spreading of green environmental protection awareness. It always makes sense to allow children to have fun while learning and gaining knowledge.

Training camps differ from schools and give kindergarten students the opportunity to enjoy learning about traffic safety. The safety education program aims to deepen understanding of traffic safety for everyone participating in motorized society.
