For many years, Honda has demonstrated its passion for competition, and embodied this passion in numerous motorsports. Through its participation in these motorsports, Honda has made a significant realization: when it comes to passion for competition, motorsports and parasports are no different. And the reason? Honda believes that passion for competition—and the sight of people competing—has the ability to inspire hopes, dreams, and courage both in the participants themselves and in onlookers.
Honda wants to realize a future in which everyone can demonstrate their individuality, and in which everyone has the opportunity to fight for their dreams. For this reason, in 1993 the company began its support for the parasport of wheelchair racing. Since then, Honda has expanded the scope and increased the quality of its activities, with the goal of providing athletes with the satisfaction of victory, and providing the world with inspiration.
“Wheelchair racing” is the racing of wheelchairs in track and road races. In particular, it refers to track races and road races, such as wheelchair marathons, in which participants use three-wheeled wheelchairs known as “racing wheelchairs” designed specifically for competition. Wheelchair athletics has a broader meaning, encompassing field events such as javelin, and other throwing categories. Wheelchair racing and wheelchair athletics are distinctive in that athletes are classified according to the nature and extent of their disabilities
