Business environment surrounding Honda

On April 1, 2025, Honda held an initiation ceremony to welcome new Honda associates. The ceremony was held in Tochigi Prefecture, where Honda research & development operations are located. 925 new associates who joined “Team Honda” are now embarking on new challenges as working professionals in order to realize their own dreams. This article introduces the message CEO Mibe conveyed to the new Honda associates.

Welcome to Honda.

 

As you know, Honda started its business based on the strong desire of our founder to “help people with our own technology.” Since its founding in 1948, Honda has grown to the point where it makes connections with 27 million customers around the world each year with its broad range of mobility products, including motorcycles, automobiles, power products, aircraft as well as mobility services. The reason Honda was able to grow this far was because our customers all around the world have accepted Honda, then placed high expectations on Honda.

 

Now, we are pursuing the “second founding of Honda” with an aim to offer a clean and safe society where our customers can live with peace of mind by realizing carbon neutrality and achieving zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda motorcycles and automobiles worldwide by 2050. Among various initiatives we are taking toward our goals, Honda is strongly pursuing electrification of our motorcycles, automobiles and power product as our key challenge. In addition, we are making steady progress toward the creation of new value which will be realized through the integration of mobility, energy and communication.

 

However, the speed of change happening in the business environment surrounding Honda is extremely fast, and various companies are entering the market. We have entered an era where conventional ideas and approaches no longer work. That is why Honda must continue to take on challenges in order to keep offering the “joy and freedom of mobility” that exceeds the expectations of our customers through our mobility products and services. 

 

Based on this understanding, we have been taking various initiatives to prepare ourselves to further accelerate our electrification business and to create new value by leveraging our broad and expanding range of mobility products and services, and we think we have solidified our footing into the era of electrification. 

 

As a result, we were able to introduce our new EV series, namely the Honda 0 Series, as well as our next-generation electrification and production technologies which will be applied to our new EVs. We also announced electric motorcycle models we will introduce in India and Indonesia. Moreover, we have formed and expanded strategic partnerships with various companies in the areas of electrification and intelligent technologies. I am feeling that we have made steady progress in enhancing our corporate competitiveness.

 While making company-wide efforts to transform Honda, there is something we want to cherish. That is our Global Brand Slogan, The Power of Dreams, and our desire to become the “power” that enables the actions of people all around the world who are trying to do things through their own initiative, which we believe will be increasingly valuable now, more than ever, as Honda undergoes the transformation.

What I would like each and every one of you who will work at Honda to keep firmly in mind is the pursuit of “originality” and “the value we derive by thinking through the very essence of things.” Those are the things we expect of Honda, and can be expressed in many different ways such as “a simple value rooted in people’s daily lives,” or “resilient value,” or “value that inspire people.”

 

Honda is a company that brings together individuals with a strong desire to demonstrate their originality. We want Honda to continue to be a company that cherishes the dreams of all people and always pursues “originality” and “the essence of things” as we continue to take on challenges toward our big goals.

 

You are here today because you are attracted by such characteristics of Honda and chose Honda as a place to demonstrate your abilities, and I believe that all of you think that Honda should maintain its unique characteristics and you want to be part of it. 

 

To continue demonstrating our originality, we must use our own head and think it through until we reach the essence of things. I have been conveying this message repeatedly to all Honda associates. In order for Honda to continue to be a company society wants to exist into the future, we wanted to re-clarity and share the starting point, raison d’etre (reason to exist) and the value proposition of Honda by redefining and communicating the Honda Global Brand Slogan in 2023.   

 

The dreams of each and every one of us have always been the driving force of Honda. We have different kinds of dreams, but by applying our original technologies, ideas and design, we have taken on and will continue to take on challenges to realize mobility that enables more freedom, more convenience and more fun. Through creation of the mobility Honda dreams of, we want to be “The Power of Dreams” of more and more people, and that is how we will move people and society forward.

To express our passion for such a future, we added a tagline – How we move you. –  following our Global Brand Slogan – The Power of Dreams. This tagline encapsulates the double meaning of “moving people physically” as a mobility company and “moving people’s hearts” through the value we offer.

In short, Honda is striving to move people, move people’s hearts and spread dreams all around the world.

Finally, I would like to tell you what I expect of all Honda associates.

 

As I said earlier, the strengths of Honda lie with the challenges we take on toward our dreams, and the “people” who create and pursue such challenges. When we take on challenges without being afraid of risks, what we create through such challenges will become the “winning characteristics” of Honda.  

 

We are undergoing a once-in-a-100-years transformation period, which is said to be an era of great difficulty; however, I believe it is more interesting and exciting to lay our own tracks and move forward in the era of transformation, rather than moving forward on tracks someone already laid down for us in the era of stability.

 

Honda has a history of overcoming changes in the business environment in each era of the past. What made it possible for us to do that was our power of dreams and creativity, upon which we created new technologies and values, advanced mobility products and services ahead of the times, and kept taking on challenges to generate new ideas.   

 

Because we kept taking on these challenges toward our dreams Honda has been able to continue to be a company that customers around the world appreciate, have high expectation for, and want to exist. This is what Honda strives to be, and no matter how times change, it will remain the same.

 

And for Honda, which has always valued people’s dreams, our greatest asset is “people.” And it is you who are here today, nobody else, who will lead Honda into the future. Please start taking on challenges, starting today, while keeping in mind that you are capable and expected to play the lead role in the future Honda.

 

In this period of transformation, those who boldly and swiftly create new value will be the ones to lead the next era. So, let’s work together to create the “new Honda” while each of us strives to embody the spirit of “The Power of Dreams – How we move you.”
