TALLINN, Estonia, April 19, 2006 – ASIMO, Honda’s advanced humanoid robot, travelled to Tallinn, Estonia this week to help launch a new Honda science scholarship for the Tallinn University of Technology. To mark the launch ASIMO presented a cheque to the prorector of the University, Mr Jakob Kübarsepp and shook hands. The ceremony took place during a gala evening organized by Honda Baltic at the Motorex, Tallinn’s International Motorshow.

After the ceremony ASIMO met with an audience of scientists, academics and journalists. This was the first public demonstration of the humanoid robot’s voice, face and gesture recognition capabilities in Europe. These features now allow ASIMO to interact with people in a meaningful way.

Honda is supporting the University because of its common interest in developing and nurturing the talents of young people. The company is committed to social activity with a philosophy to "foster a spirited and dynamic people and society for the next generation." Toward this goal, Honda implements various social activities which are designed to communicate to young people the importance and joy of having dreams, taking on new challenges, and creating.

Demonstrating its own excellence in alternative and future energy, earlier this month Honda’s Civic Hybrid was named as the greenest car at the 'World Car of the Year Awards'.

ASIMO will be in Estonia for five days, wowing the crowds who visit Honda’s stand at Motorex. The Show runs from April 19 - 23.
