Successor to the Dream CB72 Super Sport: New Generation 250 cc Road Sports Model

Dream CB250 / 350

Thanks to its powerful output characteristics, the 250 cc 1960 Dream CB72 Super Sport expanded its fan base for a wide range of applications, from racing to touring. At the same time, other manufacturers’ 2-stroke 250 cc models were improving in performance and threatened the CB72’s dominance. Honda needed a new road sports model with higher performance and advanced features.

The Dream CB250, released in 1968, achieved performance exceeding the CB72 with a newly designed engine and frame. The engine was changed from forward-tilted to upright, and cylinder bore was enlarged to achieve a short stroke. Maximum output was 30 PS at 10,500 rpm, 6 PS higher than the CB72. The frame was changed from the CB72’s backbone frame to a rigid semi-double cradle, and weight was reduced by 4 kg.

The newly adopted megaphone muffler attracted many sports fans with its beauty, which led to its adoption in many subsequent Honda road sports models.

At the time of its launch, the 350cc Dream CB350, based on the CB250, was also added to expand Honda’s road sports lineup.
