Collision Mitigation Throttle Control

Technology overview

Mitigating sudden starting/acceleration to prevent abrupt forward movement

If the accelerator pedal is firmly applied despite there being an obstacle in front of the vehicle, Collision Mitigation Throttle Control suppresses engine output to prevent sudden starting or acceleration. The driver is alerted to the risk of a collision using warning sounds and a visual warning on the instrument panel.

Obstacles forward of the vehicle are detected using millimeter-wave radar. The function envisages situations when the accelerator pedal is firmly applied while the vehicle is stopped or advancing at approximately 10 km/h or slower.

How it works

Collision Mitigation Throttle Control How it works

STEP1

When moving off from an intersection or driving at approx. 10 km/h or slower, a millimeter-wave radar detects obstacles forward of the vehicle.

STEP2

If the accelerator pedal is firmly applied, the system determines there is a collision risk. Engine output is suppressed and the driver is alerted using warning sounds and a visual warning on the instrument panel.

*Vehicles equipped with the Reactive Force Pedal feature will alert the driver using accelerator pedal vibrations.

How it helps

If the driver lightly applies the accelerator pedal, the vehicle produces a small engine output, determining that only a small amount of driving torque is desired. By contrast, if the driver firmly applies the accelerator pedal, the vehicle produces a large engine output, determining that a large amount of driving torque is desired. When the driver demands a large amount of driving torque despite the presence of an obstacle forward of the vehicle, Collision Mitigation Throttle Control determines there is a collision risk and suppresses engine output. Speed is reduced to creep speed.

The individual functions of the driver-assistive system have limited capabilities (e.g. recognition capability and control capability). Please do not overestimate the capabilities of any function and drive safely while paying constant attention to the vehicle’s surroundings. A system may not work or perform adequately depending on road conditions, weather conditions and vehicle conditions.

Function is not installed in some areas.

Depending on the model and timing of the market launch of the model, descriptions provided on this page and the actual functions available on customers’ vehicles may be different. For the functions available for each vehicle, please check the owners’ manual of the respective vehicle.
