HONDA The Power of Dreams

On September 11, 2017, "SCLF Honda Dream Fund", established by Honda Motor (China) Investment Co.,Ltd. (HMCI) and the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation, was formally launched in the former residence of Comrade Soong Ching Ling in Beijing. The project is funded by HMCI to provide support and assistance to young people in low-income families in hopes of encouraging them to keep dreaming and working to fulfill their dreams by continuing to embrace their challenging spirit, passion and vitality, and use imagination to nurture their inspiration that would help them create new values that are ahead of the times and expand their possibilities of their future lives.

In April, 2018, the Honda Dream Fund created a publication that featured 8 students who shared a variety of dreams they wished to pursue. And in March 2019 and June 2020, the second and third groups of dream-filled students were announced. After that, a further improvement of selection standard has been put in place to enhance the quality of this social contribution initiative. Then in March 2021 and March 2022, the fourth and fifth groups of students were published. So far, the Honda Dream Fund has supported 36 students in their endeavors to chase their dreams for two years and is looking forward to empowering more youngsters to broaden the paths to their bright future.

Unlike the traditional forms of public welfare, Honda Dream Fund places particular importance on the effectiveness of long-term personal support and is committed to invest necessary time and money for this cause. The fund not only supports young people in building their self-worth, but also expects them to play a leading role in the process of achieving what they aspire to become, in order to encourage more young people to feel the power of their dreams.

Honda Dream Fund focuses on providing more chances for students from low-income families to continue advancing their learning opportunities in colleges and universities. While taking into account the low starting point, weak competition, and slow development of the remote areas, some vocational colleges in central and western regions of China were selected as key partners to help such students from vulnerable background strive to pass the entrance examinations, believing that such cooperation will lead to generating a larger flow of resources and drawing more attention and participation from social and business communities.

In 2022, GAC Honda continued to promote environmental protection publicity and education through a variety of public welfare activities aimed at making more and more people aware that environmental protection is closely related to everyone's life. By viewing the flowing stream and the naturally blessed livelihood of the water source villages as the regional heritage, GAC Honda’s Liuxi River water source protection initiative titled “Drop of Care” carefully designed three educational courses focusing on the themes of water source protection, nature education and ecological farming to raise the public awareness on the importance of water source and protection of the environment and further strengthen the value and role of this environmental education initiative.

For 15 years, since 2008, the Honda Group in China has been conducting treeplanting activities in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. To date, more than 2,000 Honda associates have participated in the project, planting 1.96 million trees over 14.33 million m2 of land.

Over the years, we have studied climatic and soil characteristics to accumulate knowledge of afforestation in arid regions, which has allowed us to meet afforestation survival rates well above the national standard.

This project has been carried out for the past 3 terms of 15 years, with the fourth term set to begin in 2023. In the fourth term, the goal is to plant approximately 3.33 million square meters of forest area over a five-year period. The aim is to expand forest areas, manage water and soil loss, improve local environments, and contribute to sustainable development in rural areas and even in North China.

2022 marks the seventh year of GAC Honda’s(Guangqi Honda Automobile Co., Ltd.,) Liuxi River water source protection project. Thanks to these years of diligent efforts to implement bioenvironmental improvement measures, Liuxi River is now presenting a harmonious ecosystem between human and nature. The river water flowing into Leming Village has become clear, the trees are growing full of heavy fruits, and the environmental economy is gaining momentum.

Up to now, Leming Village has transformed into a production center of more than 10 kinds of ecological agricultural products, the Liuxi River project has enhanced the richness of more than 1000mu of soil, and the water quality is stably maintaining the level benchmarked as the national water source quality standard.

In 2022, GAC Honda's “Traffic safety education for children” Project continued to cooperate with traffic management department, CATARC, NGOs, dealership and other forces to carry out nearly 400 themed activities in schools and dealerships nationwide and traffic safety education programs for nearly 30,000 teachers and students.

The teaching materials were customized based on the local situation. The school classrooms used for these activities were designed to realize a collaborative atmosphere to remind that this was a "government + enterprise + academia" joint project. At the same time, GAC Honda has built the first batch of star dealership classrooms in South China, as a model to suggest how the latest scientific knowledge on road safety can be further integrated into the daily routine operations at the dealerships and enable them to give full play to the advantages of their rich experience and quality services.

In 2022, GAC Honda continued to hold professional safe driving experience camp activities for car owners and media. The safe driving experience camp provided professional and systematic safe driving courses to strengthen drivers' awareness of safe driving.

GAC Honda has also developed and continuously upgraded the "Intelligent Driving Analysis System for Driving Behavior" by adding S-shaped pile winding and comprehensive curve functions in 2022, which can record vehicle speed, steering control, running track and other related data, and analyze drivers' operating behaviors to improve their driving skills more effectively.　

On September 5, Luding County in Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province was struck hard by a 6.8 magnitude earthquake. To support the earthquake disaster relief activities, Honda Power Products (China) Co., Ltd donated 20 medium-sized generators, 10 large generators and 20 water pumps to the Red Cross Society of Luding County, which were immediately sent to the seriously affected areas for emergency rescue operations. In 2022, GAC Honda donated 2 million RMB yuan to financially aid the Sichuan earthquake disaster relief and recovery operations, and donated 900,000 RMB yuan to support the epidemic prevention and control in Guangzhou.
