要 旨
Accurate hands-on detection is critical for maintaining driver engagement in advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). However, OFF-dropout—where transient hand movements or subtle grip adjustments are misclassified as non grasping states—remains a significant challenge that affects system reliability and user trust. This study presents an enhanced hands-on sensor system that integrates offset correction and adaptive grasp detection methodologies to improve both detection accuracy and robustness. The proposed system, unlike conventional pressure or torque sensors, features a dynamically adaptive sensor architecture that recalibrates baseline capacitance values in real-time, accounting for grip variability and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity. A refined band-pass filter (BPF) logic suppresses false non-grasping detections, while an advanced thresholding algorithm distinguishes transient grip fluctuations from genuine non-grasping states. Through controlled simulations and real-world testing, the system iteratively optimizes detection logic and thresholds to ensure reliable performance across diverse driving conditions. These advancements reduce OFF-dropout errors by 37%, providing a scalable and adaptable framework for future hands-on sensor technologies, contributing to safer and more intuitive driver monitoring systems for next-generation autonomous driving applications.

要 旨
Advances being made today in electronic technology are evolving the processes that make vehicles more intelligent, in addition to realizing safer and more comfortable driving. Lane departure prevention systems are also becoming practical due to millimeter-wave radar and onboard forward observation cameras. The U.S. Department of transportation has implemented a National Automotive Sampling System Crashworthiness Data System (NASS/CDS) for North America that found 10,743 accidents in 2019 involved departure from the road. There were 12,043 fatalities in these accidents. Lane departure prevention systems are expected to make a major contribution to reducing accidents of this kind. Advances are also being made in the development of systems that will enable autonomous driving, and the system to ensure safe and comfortable vehicle operation is being developed. These systems embody great potential for reducing the number of accidents caused by road departure. However, the validity of the systems is largely dependent on the level of acceptance by drivers. System validity will be determined by when they provide driving assistance, how much relaxation will be permissible on the driver’s side, given that the driver needs to maintain contact with the steering wheel, and the extent of assistance provided by the system. This paper will describe the improvement of the steering grip detection rate and its reliability regarding the minimum contact and contact strength of the driver to the steering wheel during lane keeping and autonomous driving systems. Using an actual vehicle, experiments were conducted on 20 subjects to investigate the relationship between the driver's steering angular velocity, steering angular velocity, steering torque, and steering contact state. The authors have improved the detection rate and reliability by clarifying the minimum steering grip during ADAS operation and the optimum detection range of the grip detection system at that time. The existing literature on driver modeling indicates that numerous factors contribute to driving, but only a limited number of simulations have utilized complete models. Thus, the present study aims to address this research gap by examining the correlation between the driver's steering contact range and steering operability, and exploring the relationship with the subject's grip strength. Additionally, the paper proposes an optimal detection system to improve the detection rate and reliability of the steering grip during ADAS operation, which could potentially contribute to the development of more realistic driver models and improved driver training and vehicle design. Based on the results of this verification, we determined the range of steering grasping, and accurately grasped the grasping with an electrostatic sensor built into the steering switch so that it can be installed in actual vehicles in the future. A sensor that can detect minute capacitance changes at a distance from the sensor is required. For this prob issue, we used a method called the absolute self-capacitance method. In this method, the parasitic capacitance of the detection electrode is reduced by the drive shield electrode on the back of the detection electrode, and the detection sensitivity of minute capacitance at a distance from the sensor is ensured. The study only involved a small sample size of 20 subjects, which may not be representative of the wider population. It aims to investigate the relationship between the driver's steering grip range and steering operability, as well as the relationship with the subject's grip strength, and provide insights into the complex interplay between these factors. As a conclusion of this study showed that there is a significant correlation between steering grip range and steering operability, indicating that the driver's ability to adjust their grip on the steering wheel plays an important role in controlling the vehicle's movement.

Today’s progress in electronic technologies is advancing the process of making vehicles more intelligent, and this is making driving safer and more comfortable. In recent years, numerous vehicles equipped with high-level Advance Driving Assist System (ADAS) have been put on the market. High-level ADAS can detect impending lane deviation, and control the vehicle so that the driver does not deviate from the lane. Lane departure prevention systems are able to detect imminent departure from the road, allowing the driver to apply control to prevent lane departure. These systems possess enormous potential to reduce the number of accidents resulting from road departure, but their effectiveness is highly reliant on their level of acceptance by drivers. The effectiveness of the systems will depend on when they are providing driving assistance, what level of laxness in terms of maintaining contact with the steering wheel is permitted, and how seamlessly the transition of control between the driver and the system is executed.

Lane departure prevention systems are able to detect imminent departure from the road, allowing the driver to apply control to prevent lane departure. These systems possess enormous potential to reduce the number of accidents resulting from road departure, but their effectiveness is highly reliant on their level of acceptance by drivers. The effectiveness of the systems will depend on when they are providing driving assistance, what level of laxness in terms of maintaining contact with the steering wheel is allowed on the part of the driver, and what level of assistance the system provides. This paper will discuss research on the minimum necessary contact and contact strength with the steering wheel on the part of the driver when a lane departure prevention system is in operation. Using a six-axis driving simulator employing an actual vehicle, the research conducted tests involving 22 test subjects, and studied the relationship between the status of the driver’s contact with the steering wheel and vehicle behavior when the system failed. As a result of simulation, when the driver had relinquished steering control and the vehicle was self-steering on the curve, contact of even one finger with the steering wheel made the reaction time faster.

Motorized seatbelt systems that retract seatbelts using motors are being mass-produced by many manufacturers. Scenarios for operation of these systems cover a wide range, including automatic braking for collision avoidance, brake assist and other such pre-crash situations, when the seatbelt is buckled, unbuckled and stored, during sport driving, or under normal conditions. These systems increase the retracting load of the motor using gears, and they can apply a high load in retracting the seatbelt. Previous systems, however, were designed primarily for pre-crash conditions. In previous systems, motor speed rose to higher levels in the normal operating state. The tendency to generate more noise and the application of higher loads on seatbelt retraction therefore became issues. For the present study, these issues were addressed using simulation to optimize the gear ratio. Using this method, the present system successfully reduced the noise during operation by 12%, reduced the load during normal usable operation by 36%, reduced the chest load during pre-crash situation by 20% and provided occupant protection performance on a par with previous systems.

要 旨
According to the North American National Automotive Sampling System Crashworthiness Data System (NASS/CDS), approximately one-half of all accidents during driving are of the secondary collision pattern in which the collision event involves the occurrence of secondary collision. Accidents involving impact to a stopped vehicle (chain-reaction collisions) have increased to approximately 3% of all accidents in North America, and although the rate of serious injury is low, cases have been reported of accidents in which cervical sprain occurs as an after-effect [1]. In order to mitigate these circumstances, research has been conducted on systems of automatic braking for collisions. These systems apply brakes automatically when a first collision has been detected in order to avoid or lessen a second collision.

Currently, a number of automobile OEMs have been equipped motorized seatbelt systems with volume-production vehicles. Since the current systems are generally initiated by the activation of the automatic collision brakes, or the brake assist systems; the benefit of those systems is limited solely in pre-crash phase. To enhance the effectiveness of the system, we attempted to develop a motorized seatbelt system which enables to control retracing force according to various situations during driving. The present system enables to accomplish both the occupants' comfort and protection performance throughout their driving from when it is buckled to when unbuckled and stored, or during both routine and sport driving, as well as pre-crash phase. Moreover, it was confirmed that lateral occupants' excursion during driving was reduced by up to 50% with the present system.
