Abstract

Honda has been taking part in the Driving Safety Support System (DSSS) of the Universal Traffic Management Society of Japan (UTMS Society). Based on an analysis of traffic collisions, Honda has engaged in the two issues below by developing an operation test vehicle and promoting research.• Dealing with conditions where the counterpart vehicle is not readily visible (due to structures, trucks, buses, or other such shielding obstructions)• Dealing with motorcycles as vulnerable parties in trafficThe research has involved the application of road infrastructure technology (use of information from sensors installed at the roadside) and effect verification on public roadways. The results indicate that this approach can be expected to effectively reduce collisions.
