Lap Time Simulation Technology for Performance Design during Production Car Development

Abstract

A lap-time simulation technology for circuit driving compatible with performance design technologies employed during the development of production vehicles has been developed. The method creates vehicle models using data employed in the model-based development of production vehicles, and by combining these with models of driving and road surface conditions, reduces the computation time necessary for lap time simulation. The ability to define two models using the circular arc and whole curve transition methods makes it possible to apply the method in the performance design of production vehicles using all drive types. The method enables treatment of lap times during circuit driving as one item in the study of specifications during performance design in the development of production vehicles. The application of the method in the study of specifications during the development of the new NSX and the CIVIC TYPE R demonstrated the validity of the concept and the effectiveness of the method.
