Abstract
A technology was developed for metal surface modification treatment to be used on a car body production line for weld-joining parts made of thermoplastic resin with metal parts. A glass membrane with a high hydroxyl group density of 1.4×10-9 mol/cm2 was successfully formed on an aluminum alloy surface by configuring the conditions for the atmospheric pressure plasma chemical vapor deposition process. The obtained surface was confirmed to have wettability to melted 6-nylon. In addition, an amorphous layer was observed to have formed near the interface portion of the thermoplastic resin thermally welded to it. The effect of these results was that a high level of join strength equal to that in existing items with roughened metal surface aiming for an anchor effect was achieved with items of dissimilar material joined by thermal welding.
