Honda Issues “Honda SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2015”

TOKYO, Japan, June 29, 2015 - Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today issued the “Honda SUSTAINABILITY REPORT 2015 (“Sustainability Report”) summarizing Honda’s approach to sustainability as well as activities/initiatives Honda has undertaken based on key challenges identified in non-financial areas. This is the first Sustainability Report Honda has issued by combining the content of the previous Honda CSR Report and Honda Environmental Annual Report (global edition) for all stakeholders of Honda.

In his CEO message at the beginning of the Sustainability Report, Takahiro Hachigo, the new president of Honda who took office this month, says, “we pursue sustainability through addressing the issues of the environment, safety, quality and society, and we create new value through innovation and challenge.”

In the Sustainability Report, Honda’s corporate activities are reported in correlation to these four themes.

<Key contents of reporting/disclosure>

  • Environment: The Sustainability Report introduces data related to Honda’s global environmental performance as well as plans and progresses for the period of FY2015-FY2017 (period ending March 31, 2017) for both Honda products and corporate activities.
  • Safety: The Sustainability Report introduces Honda initiatives in various areas of safety, including 1) traffic safety education, 2) safety technology such as Honda SENSING technologies and 3) communicating safety-enhancing information through telematics.
  • Quality: Honda’s initiatives in the area of quality include 1) quality assurance through the cross-functional effort of relevant divisions such as the development, purchasing and production divisions, 2) establishment of a system and capability to improve market quality on a global basis, and 3) quality management education, also are being introduced in the Sustainability Report.
  • Society: The Sustainability Report introduces Honda’s initiatives in the areas of human resources, social activities, and the supply chain as well. In the area of human resources, Honda’s initiative to make English an official language of the company and offering a global leader development program are introduced as a part of Honda’s effort to develop global human resources. In the area of promoting diversity, relevant global data such as the number of female associates and managers are also included.

Honda referred to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI*), an internationally-recognized guideline for sustainability reporting, to determine which information should be disclosed in its Sustainability Report.

Through its Sustainability Report, Honda will continue reporting to its stakeholders how the corporate activities of the Honda Group are connected to society in various ways. Moreover, Honda will incorporate stakeholder feedback in Honda’s sustainability-focused management for the future to increase its corporate value and to better contribute to the realization of a sustainable society. With that, Honda will strive to be a company society wants to exist.
