In order to compete with the almighty Mercedes,
Honda followed the trend of split turbos,
aiming for a larger turbocharger and a lower center of gravity,
to improve competitiveness. Plagued once again by reliability issues,
Honda’s relationship with McLaren deteriorated.
During the season, an announcement was made
that the partnership would be terminated at the end of the season.
At around the same time, Honda decided to begin a partnership
with Toro Rosso from the following year.
