After winning the WGP (FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix,
commonly known as MotoGP) in 1961,
Honda decided to take on the challenge of F1 Grand Prix racing as a training ground
for its technology in entering the automobile business.
The RA271, incorporating Honda’s know-how from motorcycle racing,
was powered by an advanced, transversely mounted V12 engine,
with a displacement of only 1.5 L.
