Honda's Passion for Aircraft Engines

Dream for the sky

Entry into the aircraft industry has long been a dream for Honda.

To make our dream come true, in 1986, Honda initiated research and development of jet engines.
In 2004, Honda successfully developed the HF118 turbofan engine. This achievement led to a partnership with the General Electric Company (GE), the world's largest jet engine manufacturer, who has a long history and extensive experience in the development, certification, manufacturing, and customer support of jet engines. This partnership encouraged Honda to pursue further development of engines for jet aircraft.

Dream for the sky

In December 2013, the HF120 Turbofan Engine developed in collaboration between GE and Honda acquired a Type Certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the US. In December 2015, the engine started delivery to end-customers as the engine installed on the HondaJet, Honda’s business jet aircraft. The dream for the sky has finally come true after three decades from the launch of the research and development.
