TOKYO, Japan, July 18, 2019 – Honda Motor Co., Ltd. will begin sales of the all-new N-WGN and N-WGN Custom on August 9, 2019 at dealerships across Japan.
N-WGN
Based on the underlying concept of the Honda N Series, which is to offer “enjoyable lives with N”* and the development approach of determining the most important things in people’s daily lives and thoroughly refining such core values, Honda further pursued safety performance and user-friendliness for this all-new N-WGN. Based on this, Honda strived to develop a vehicle which blends in to the daily life of each and every customer, can be used comfortably by anyone and has friendliness.
*Norimono means “vehicle” in Japanese, which is what “N” represents
The Honda SENSING® suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies is available as standard equipment*1 on the all-new N-WGN, and its Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS™) can detect a bicycle cutting in front of the vehicle, making the all-new N-WGN the first mini-vehicle in the market to offer this feature*2. Moreover, its ability to detect pedestrians at night without street lights was further advanced*3, enabling the driver to drive with greater peace of mind.
Utilizing the platform of N-BOX, the N-WGN adopts Honda's original center-tank layout, which places the fuel tank underneath the front seats, to realize a spacious cabin that enhances occupant comfort for everyday use as well as cargo space with high usability.
For the driver, a telescopic & tilt steering mechanism was adopted so that drivers of any physique can find and maintain the optimal driving position.
The cargo space has been a very popular feature of the N-WGN. For this all-new N-WGN, the ground height of the tailgate opening was lowered to make it easier to load heavy and tall items. With the use of a cargo board, which comes with the vehicle, the cargo space can be divided into upper and lower areas, which enhances the convenience of the users by enabling different cargo space arrangement depending on the use situation.
With this all-new N-WGN, Honda will begin evolving the advertising campaign with a tagline, “New Simple!” which represents the approach taken to develop this model, a commitment to what is important to people in their daily lives.

This testing result was obtained only under the JNCAP testing conditions, and it may not be applicable to all cases in the real-world traffic environment due to effects of obstacles such as building structures.

Design
Exterior
All-new N-WGN features firm, yet substantial-looking surfaces which cover the entire vehicle from the front-end and doors all the way through the tailgate. While looking clean and simple, the box-shaped body hints at the spaciousness of the cabin. Together with the round headlights, the exterior design expresses a friendliness and solid sense of security which blends in to people’s daily lives.
While adhering to the basic design concept of N-WGN, the exterior design of the all-new N-WGN Custom expresses outstanding visual and tactile quality which resonates with the sensitivity of mature customers, by featuring front and rear bumpers that boldly emphasize the dynamic presence of the vehicle and headlights and front grille which were exquisitely designed while giving attention to every detail.
Interior
With brown as the base interior color, the all-new N-WGN features seats with an ivory front surface and brown side and back surfaces, which blend in with the cabin space and express the spaciousness and comfort of the cabin.
With black as the base interior color, the all-new N-WGN Custom features combinations of titanium-looking garnishes with a graceful luster to express the high-quality and sharp image of the cabin space.
Driver-assistive functions
Featuring Honda SENSING as standard equipment for all types
For the first time among any mini-vehicle in the market, the all-new N-WGN features a Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) that works with a bicycle cutting in front of the vehicle. In addition, a function to detect pedestrians at night without street lights was further advanced to assist the driver’s effort to avoid collisions.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with Low-Speed Follow maintains a vehicle speed preset by the driver when there is no vehicle in front. When there is a vehicle in front, the system will assist the driver to maintain an appropriate distance from the vehicle ahead by accelerating and decelerating. When the vehicle in front comes to a stop, the system will stop the vehicle accordingly, reducing the burden on the driver, especially effective while driving on congested highways.

Parking and stopping functions for an enhanced sense of safety
- For the first time for a Honda mini-vehicle, the Parking Sensor System will be standard on the all-new N-WGN. The system uses four ultrasonic sensors mounted on the rear bumper to detect obstacles approaching from the rear and notifies the driver with an alarm sound and a display on the meter.
- With the Automatic Brake Hold function, which can be engaged by pressing a button after braking to a stop on a hilly road or at a traffic light, the vehicle remains stopped even after the driver removes the foot from the brake pedal. When the driver steps on the accelerator pedal, the system automatically disengages the brake and the vehicle starts moving.
- The Electric Parking Brake can be set by lifting the switch button and automatically released by stepping on the accelerator pedal.
Convenience
Spacious cabin and user-friendly cargo space realized by leveraging the low floor
- The N-BOX platform was customized for the all-new N-WGN. The low floor realized through the combination of the FF platform and Honda’s patented center-tank layout packaging technology enables all-new N-WGN to feature a large cabin space.
- The ground height of the cargo space floor was lowered to make it easier to load heavy items. With the use of a cargo board, which comes with the vehicle, the cargo space can be divided into upper and lower areas. Multiple cargo space arrangements are possible to accommodate the different needs of customers. For example, by folding down the rear seats with the cargo board in place, the depth of the upper cargo area is extended, and by storing the cargo board on the back face of the rear seats, one big cargo space will accommodate tall items as well.
Plenty of storage spaces and a convenient charging function
- In addition to a storage space for small items located in front of the front passenger seat, a tray under the rear seats and storage pockets on the back face of the front seats*, the all-new N-WGN also features storage space around the legroom. Including the location of a USB jack which is easy to reach from the driver’s seat, user-friendliness in everyday driving situations was further enhanced.

Comfort
Driver’s seat and a surrounding area designed in the pursuit of a comfortable driving position
- In order to enable drivers of any physique to find and maintain the optimal driving position, the all-new N-WGN features a height-adjustable driver’s seat and a telescopic & tilt steering mechanism as standard equipment. The all-new N-WGN is the first Honda mini-vehicles to adopt a telescopic & tilt steering mechanism.
- Ease of footwork necessary for ingress/egress was improved by reducing the height difference between the door opening and the floor. The height of the seating surface was set so that the up and down movements of the waist line will be minimized during ingress/regress, further increasing ease of ingress/regress.
