Development of Pass-by Noise Analysis Technology with Utilization of Engine Control Data

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to introduce the new pass-by noise analysis technology with utilization of engine control data. This newly constructed measurement system obtains comprehensive engine control data while measuring vehicle pass-by noise levels with real-time data analysis capability. The measurement system combines two different data acquisition systems into one. The first system converts digital values obtained from an engine control unit into an analog signal output, while the second system obtains multiple channel analog signals. By performing pass-by noise testing with this system, the relationship between environment induced fluctuating engine control parameters, such as charging efficiency and ignition timing, and the effect on noise levels is determined. Furthermore, by normalizing obtained data to standard environmental conditions, vehicle noise levels and the amount of change in noise levels resulting from specification changes are accurately evaluated.
