Abstract
The 2011 Odyssey development team targeted achieving the “Best Family Vehicle” in terms of functionality, safety, and efficiency. In the area of efficiency, the overall goal was set to achieve “best-in-class” fuel economy. This goal was achieved through a total vehicle approach that involved efficiency gains in the following areas: engine operation, engine accessories and accessory belt drive system, chassis running resistance, and aerodynamics. In addition to hardware efficiency gains, aggressive weight reduction activities were conducted across all vehicle areas that contributed to the overall fuel economy improvement while meeting the functionality and performance targets.
