Abstract
A high differential pressure water electrolysis-type solar hydrogen station (SHS2) was built with installation in ordinary households in mind. This SHS2 was equipped with a newly developed high differential pressure electrolyzer, which is an innovative technology. The stack differs from the ordinary high-pressure electrolyzer that keeps both the anode side and the cathode side in a high-pressure state. Here, instead, the anode side is under normal pressure and only the cathode side is maintained under the high pressure of 35 MPa. Compared to the ordinary high-pressure electrolyzer, therefore, this one has a simpler structure and can be made compact. Furthermore, the stack here has the functions of both generating and compressing hydrogen, so that the SHS2 with this stack mounted was made into a compact, highly efficient and low-noise, home-sized hydrogen refueling appliance.Compared to the previous solar hydrogen station (SHS1), the SHS2 is 60% more compact and realizes an increase of 25% in system efficiency.
