Since 2006, Honda has carried out the Honda Beach Clean-Up Activity, an environmental initiative built on the simple promise of “passing on beaches where everyone can walk barefoot to the next generation.” As part of this initiative, Honda paired slow, gentle scenes from these beach clean-up activities with a soothing lo-fi soundtrack to create a two-hour ambient video designed for work environments.
About Honda beach clean-up activities
For nearly two decades, Honda has continued its Beach Clean Activity across coastal areas in Japan, guided by its passion to “pass on beaches where everyone can walk barefoot to the next generation.” Since the program began in 2006, Honda has worked alongside local communities to restore and preserve the natural beauty of beaches throughout the country.
The Honda Beach Cleaner is Honda’s original system that collects waste by towing a uniquely developed cleaning unit behind a Honda ATV (all-terrain vehicle) designed to travel smoothly across sandy beaches. Although lightweight and simple in structure, this cleaner is the result of countless prototyping and creative ideas, and is engineered so that it does not disturb the living creatures that inhabit the sand.
On the calm, expansive shoreline, volunteers spend an entire day carrying out the clean-up. The scene may appear relaxed at first glance, but behind it are people driven by a strong desire to pass on beaches where everyone can walk barefoot to the next generation.
Comments from the Beach Clean-Up Activity team
In Honda’s beach clean-up activity, while out originally developed cleaning equipment certainly plays an important role, the foundation of the activity is, above all, people picking up litter with their own hands. As participants work up a sweat and cooperate to clean the beach, they come to feel its beauty and the joy of restoring it. Through this experience, an awareness naturally forms: not to throw litter away, and to pick up what you find.
What we hope to pass on to the next generation through this activity is beaches where everyone can walk barefoot with peace of mind, and the mindset of wanting to protect the natural environment. Thinking about environmental issues while working, and experiencing cooperation with others, elevates each participant’s awareness. These actions then expand into community-wide efforts to protect local nature, eventually becoming a powerful force that connects to the future.
And one day, we hope to reach a world where beautiful beaches are the norm—where beach clean-ups are no longer needed. Until that day comes, we will continue our efforts.
Comments from the“Chill for Work” video production team
In creating this video, we aimed to lay gentle lo-fi soundscapes over footage of the Beach Clean Activity, combining the beauty of the shoreline with the sounds of waves, machinery, and the warm passion of the people involved. Our goal was to create a work that feels calm yet uplifting.
Whether working toward personal goals, taking a short break when feeling tired, or spending time with close friends, we hope this video can accompany the many moments in everyone’s day.

Arranging ideas and sounds that come to mind—almost like tidying up a desk—boldly setting aside what isn’t needed and leaving only the sounds you truly want to resonate to shape a single song: this process of music-making overlapped uncannily with the Beach Cleaner theme of “cleaning” embodied I collaborated with. It reminded me of a vital sensibility that applies not only to creative work, but to many aspects of life and work in general.
For this project, I sampled the Beach Cleaner’s distinctive rhythms along with the sound of the waves, weaving them into a retro, lo-fi chill track. I hope people enjoy listening to it together with the beautiful visuals.
