Light drizzle and cool temperatures over the weekend did little to dampen enthusiasm ahead of a weekend of camping at one of motorsport’s traditional heartlands, as guests travelled from as far afield as Ireland, Sweden, and Bulgaria, meeting up with fellow attendees along the away to support a unique social media driven convoy, #ROADtoREDLINE.

In anticipation of the upcoming release of the all-new Civic Type R, launched at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, 150 lucky guests were given an unforgettable chance to take part in a forty-car parade lap of the historic Nordschleife circuit in front of nearly 200,000 spectators.

Returning to the very track that the Civic Type R recently set the lap record for a front-wheel drive hot hatch, the convoy of Honda’s made their way around the circuit shortly after the third place finish of Castrol Honda Driver Tiago Monteiro in the second WTCC race.

Philip Ross, Senior vice-president of Honda Motor Europe was delighted to see such community support for the team, and for a car that expresses the passion and excitement within Honda.

“We’re so happy to be able to provide such a wonderful place for Honda fans and owners from all across Europe to come and support our WTCC team, but also as a place where people can share their own passion for Type R.

“The campground had a really great community feel, and the passion our fans have for Honda, and the love they have for their own cars was on display for the whole of the paddock to see. It goes beyond nationality, language, age, and the brand.”

Speaking in front of a packed house about the event, Team Castrol Honda driver Tiago Monteiro said.

“It’s fantastic because without the fans, there would be no Motorsports. We need them. It’s great to feel that strong support... People come from everywhere in the world, it’s a great motivation.”

Selling out in just 10 days, fans enjoyed a VIP entrance ticket to the race with paddock access, camping accommodation in a souvenir tent, all food and drink throughout the weekend, a hands-on encounter with the new Civic Type R, a tour of the garage, and chance to meet the drivers at a special Q&A session.
