São Paulo, Brazil, September 4, 2012 - Honda Automóveis do Brasil was granted, for the second consecutive year, the Gold Seal related to the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program. The release ceremony was held on last September 4, at BNDES (National Development Bank) headquarters, in Rio de Janeiro. The recognition was granted to Honda in view of the results published on its greenhouse gas emission inventory.

In 2011, Honda was one of the program highlights. The company was the first one from the automotive business to release the inventory of CO2 emissions in the three scopes assessed (sources of direct emission, indirect for use of energy and indirect for generation of customers and suppliers), and the only representative of this market among the 37 companies which obtained the ultimate recognition. To Arthur Signorini, Environmental Planning Manager, the GHG Protocol Gold Seal is an important recognition of the company’s constant commitment to the environmental issue. “The GHG Protocol is certainly one of the world’s most important certificates concerning the efforts by companies to reduce the carbon emissions. Therefore, receiving this Gold Medal is greatly important to Honda as it is a recognition of the work done by the company in sustainable technologies at our facilities and products”.

The GHG Protocol was created in 1998 by the World Resources Institute (WRI) with the purpose of serving as a tool to quantify the greenhouse gas emissions. It is, today, the most used methodology in the world by companies and governments for the preparation of emission inventories. It was adopted for the first time in Brazil in 2008, with the encouragement by the Ministry of Environment and has, ever since, recognized the companies with the best figures in their publications.
