BRUSSELS, Belgium, November 14, 2005 - ASIMO, wowed delegates including scientists and journalists at the European Commission’s ‘Communicating European Research’ conference in Brussels, Belgium. ASIMO opened the show with Philippe Busquin, the former Commissioner for Science and Research, Janez Potocnik, the current Commissioner for Science and Research and Viviane Reding, Commissioner for Information Society and Media. The two day event is aimed at promoting and sharing successful scientific communications experience.

Honda was also invited to the conference to share its own experience of communicating research in Europe - via ASIMO. In this session, Prof Dr Körner, President of the Honda Research Institute (Europe) discussed the impetus behind Honda’s research into humanoid robotics, its practical applications and Europe’s involvement in its current and future development.

The session also provided the audience with a unique insight into Honda Motor Europe’s communications program for ASIMO (‘Who said science isn’t fun?’), which is utilizing the engaging power of its advanced humanoid robot to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers.

Joining Honda in this discussion were key representatives from the UK’s Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, the SMMT Industry Forum and Hawkley Hall High School, each of whom have been directly involved in ASIMO’s education program to date.
