EU, September 23, 2005 – Honda’s ASIMO, the world’s most advanced humanoid robot, was the star attraction at the European Commission’s European Researchers’ Night which took place across Europe on 23rd September 2005.  The night was part of the Commission’s wider Researchers in Europe 2005 initiative, a European-wide awareness campaign aimed at enhancing the public recognition of the role of researchers and their contribution to society. The initiative runs until November 2005.  ASIMO attended the flagship event in Brussels, Belgium, as a world class example of what a career in research can achieve.

The pan-European event provided the public, in particular young people, with the opportunity to meet European researchers from a wide range of scientific and research organisations.  A variety of entertaining and fun events, including ASIMO’s performance, were also organized, aimed at highlighting the appeal of pursuing a career in research.

The event was organized by the European Commission in collaboration with a wide range of research institutions, including Honda.
