U.K., May 25, 2005–ASIMO, the world’s most advanced humanoid robot, will be one of the star attractions at the European Commission’s European Researchers’ Night taking place across Europe on 23rd September 2005.  The night is part of the wider Researchers in Europe 2005 initiative, a European-wide awareness campaign aimed at enhancing the public recognition of the role of researchers and their contribution to society. The initiative runs from June to November 2005.  ASIMO is attending the flagship event in Brussels as a world class example of what a career in research can achieve.

The pan-European event will provide the public, in particular young people, the opportunity to meet European researchers from a wide range of scientific and research organisations.  A variety of entertaining and fun events will aim to highlight the appeal of pursuing a career in research.

The event is organized by the European Commission, in collaboration with a wide range of public and private institutions, including Honda.

The work of Honda’s own European-based research facility - The Honda Research Institute (Europe) based in Germany – includes the development of brain-like intelligence for Honda’s humanoid robots.

William De Braekeleer, Corporate PR Manager of Honda Motor Europe said: “The European Researchers’ Night is a great opportunity to demonstrate to young people the exciting challenges they could face through a career in research. ASIMO demonstrates the diverse and revolutionary projects researchers can become involved in and I hope it inspires more young Europeans into research vocations.”
