TORRANCE, Calif., Feb. 15 - A new Honda prototype 4-stroke marine outboard engine, the BF225, which delivers up to 225 horsepower and stands as the world's most powerful 4-stroke marine outboard engine, was introduced today. The new engine debuted at the 60th Miami International Boat Show & Strictly Sail Miami, held February 15-20 in Miami, Florida, USA.

Powered by a 4-stroke V-6 engine, exhaust emissions from the Honda BF225 easily clear the world's strictest emissions regulations based on in-house testing -- including those established in the U.S. for year 2008 by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). This excellent environmental performance makes the BF225 an ideal powerplant for a wide range of boating activities on all waters - ranging from rivers and lakes to open ocean.

Production models including the 200-horsepower BF200 and the 225-horsepower BF225 are scheduled for U.S. introduction in early 2002, and in Japan by fall 2001. The introduction of these new outboards will bring to 15 the number of Honda outboard engine models. This outboard lineup delivers power outputs from 2PS to 225PS, ideal for a wide range of river, lake, and ocean boating, from cruising to sport fishing and many other activities.

Since 1964, Honda has been the industry leader in the development and manufacture of 4-stroke outboards that offer the highest combustion efficiency, lowest fuel consumption, and cleanest emissions. This leadership commitment, based on years of motorcycle, automobile and power product engine development, continues today as Honda applies advanced 4-stroke engine technology in an effort to stimulate new demand by creating marine outboards that are more environmentally friendly and will appeal to customers.
