Honda Announces Relaunch of Gorilla Leisure Bike
January 22, 1998, Japan
Tokyo, January 22, 1998 - Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced the re-launch of the Honda Gorilla leisure bike, which will go on sale on February 10. Fitted with a 4-cycle single-cylinder 50cc engine that is economical and highly reliable, it is easy to handle and exudes a charm all of its own. Last sold in Japan between 1978 and 1988, the Gorilla is making a comeback partly thanks to the resurgent popularity of outdoor leisure pursuits.
Easy to handle in the lower revs, the Gorilla's engine also delivers substantial power smoothly in the upper ranges. Fitted with an automatic cam-chain tensioner and a compact, lightweight sealed battery, the Gorilla requires minimal maintenance. The 12V Capacitor Discharge Ignition (CDI) magnet starter also makes it a convenient bike to ride.

The backbone frame, simple telescopic front suspension and fat-tread block pattern tires (3.50--8 35J) are other style pointers. It has a capacious 9-liter fuel tank, a rear carrier, and a large, comfortable seat--complete with raised handles for extra style. To add the finishing touches, the front fender, muffler protector and other parts come in sparkling chrome. With its Pure Black body, the Gorilla is sure to make a fashion statement.
