HRC Reaches Agreement with Fabio Quartararo and David Alonso
TOKYO, Japan, July 21, 2026 - Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) has reached agreement with Fabio Quartararo, the 2021 FIM* Grand Prix World Championship MotoGP World Champion and current MotoGP rider, and David Alonso, who is currently competing in the FIM Grand Prix World Championship Moto2 class, to join HRC’s MotoGP program from the 2027 season.
Quartararo began competing in the FIM Grand Prix World Championship Moto3 class in 2015, moved up to Moto2 in 2017, and made his MotoGP debut in 2019. In his rookie MotoGP season, he claimed six pole positions and seven podium finishes, earning Rookie of the Year honors as the highest-ranked newcomer in each class.
In 2020, he secured his maiden MotoGP victory at the Spanish Grand Prix. The following season, he claimed five victories and 10 podium finishes on his way to becoming both his first World Champion title and the first French rider to win the MotoGP World Championship. To date, he has recorded 11 MotoGP victories, 32 podium finishes and 21 pole positions. HRC and Quartararo have agreed to a two-year contract beginning in 2027, with Quartararo set to race for the factory team Honda HRC.
Alonso contested his first full Moto3 season in 2023, finishing third in the championship. In his second season in 2024, he secured seven pole positions and 14 victories from 20 races to win the Moto3 World Championship. He stepped up to Moto2 in 2025 and is currently challenging for the championship. HRC and Alonso have signed a multi-year contract beginning in 2027.
New MotoGP technical regulations will be introduced in 2027, reducing engine displacement from the current 1,000cc to 850cc, while also introducing a wide range of changes to technical specifications and sporting regulations.
Joining current HRC MotoGP riders Johann Zarco (France, 36 years old) and Diogo Moreira (Brazil, 22 years old), Quartararo and Alonso will Compete with HRC’s all-new MotoGP machine, currently under development, as the team targets future World Championship success. Details of HRC’s team structure for the 2027 season will be announced at a later date.
