Honda NSX Wins the Car of the Year Japan “Special Award*” for 2016-2017
December 9, 2016, Japan
TOKYO, Japan, December 9, 2016 – Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today announced that the all-new Honda NSX supercar has been awarded the Car of the Year Japan Steering Committee’s Special Award for 2016-2017.
While inheriting the “human-centered supercar” concept proposed by the original NSX, the all-new NSX was developed to offer a “New Sports eXperience” for this new era with outstanding responsiveness and handling performance made possible through the adoption of the Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® (Super Handling All-Wheel Drive), a high-efficiency and high-output 3-motor hybrid system. In August 2016, Honda began accepting applications in Japan for custom orders of the all-new NSX supercar. Since then, the number of applications submitted has exceeded the annual sales plan of 100 units. Customer deliveries in Japan are scheduled to begin on February 27, 2017.
The Car of the Year Japan 2016-2017 Steering Committee stated:
“NSX demonstrated a high degree of perfection as a high-performance hybrid super sports car. It has a profound significance that NSX proposed the future image of sports cars with hybrid technologies which is one of Japan’s strengths. Due to that fact that the annual sales plan for NSX is 100 units, which is less than the 500-unit-standard for nomination for the Car of the Year Japan, we decided to keep this model on our records by awarding it the Steering Committee’s Special Award.”
