June 3, 2010 - Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced improvements to its BF150 (150PS) and BF135 (135PS) outboard engine series, popular for its outstanding fuel economy and other features. The new engines debut on June 3 at Honda outboard engine dealers throughout Japan.

The BF150/135 has been equipped with the same BLAST*1 (Boosted Low Speed Torque) air/fuel ratio and ignition timing technology made popular in Honda's mid-to-large outboard engine series, to deliver improved acceleration performance at low-to-medium engine speeds. Moreover, an optional trolling control switch (sold separately) permits precise control of engine rpm at low speeds for easy throttle operation when trolling.

In addition, compliance with the NMEA (National Marine Electronics Association) 2000® Standard for Serial Data allows for use with a wide range of marine electronic devices.

  • *1Honda's proprietary acceleration-enhancing technology, the BLAST system boosts torque during sudden acceleration by simultaneously optimizing the air/fuel ratio and ignition timing.

Key Features of the BF150/135

  • Improved acceleration and cruising performance
  • The BF150/135 has been newly equipped with Honda's BLAST proprietary acceleration-enhancing technology. BLAST uses simultaneous, computer-controlled optimization of the air/fuel ratio and ignition timing to increase torque, particularly in the low-to-medium speed ranges where it is required for acceleration, delivering improved acceleration performance.
  • NMEA 2000® compliance
  • Compliance with the NMEA (National Marine Electronics Association) 2000® Standard for Serial Data allows for use with a wide range of marine electronic devices.
  • Trolling control switch
  • A trolling control switch, available as optional equipment, allows for 50 rpm-increment control in the 650-900 rpm range. A buzzer indicates changes in and out of trolling mode and incremental rpm adjustments.
  • Environmental performance
  • The BF150/135 displays outstanding environmental performance, surpassing US CARB*2 emissions standards*3 - the most stringent in the world. It also exceeds secondary restrictions on marine engine emissions established by the Japan Boating Industry Association by a significant margin.
  • *2CARB: California Air Resources Board
  • *3Top rating for FY2008 (3 stars)
