Overview

Honda R&D Europe is operating two centers in UK and Germany. Main areas of research are in the fields of mobility, energy, environment and digital technology, contributing to the realization of a safe and sustainable society. Honda R&D Europe is a regional hub for collaboration with academic institutions, industry associations and consortia across Europe.

Honda R&D Europe (Germany)

The German R&D center, located in Offenbach am Main focusses on research in the fields of mobility, energy and environment. This location represents competencies across all Honda business units covering automobile, motorcycles, power products as well as energy and resource circulation technologies.

Resource Circulation

Resource circulation is a central part of the Honda‘s 2050 vision for carbon neutrality. We strive to achieve this goal through research on innovative manufacturing technologies as well as advanced materials.

Combining strategic foresight and ‘Real World’ implementation, we explore future-ready digital propositions by integrating customer needs, emerging decentralized technology, and ecosystem-driven collaboration.

Advanced Planning & Research

Our team serves as the strategic foresight function for Digital Innovation. We identify and shape opportunity areas beyond today’s business by combining behavioural science, design thinking, business strategy and AI automation. Collaborating with internal & external ecosystems we work on PESTEL sensing, forecasting future scenarios, understanding customer pain points and defining new human-centric business hypotheses. Our aim is to help Honda better understand people, anticipate change, and shape innovation around real human needs.

Decentralized Technology Research

We are exploring the future of Honda’s products, platforms, and services through decentralized technologies. Our mission is to unlock new business opportunities by applying cutting-edge research in data, decentralization, connectivity, and Multi-Agent AI. Embedded in Europe’s vibrant tech, regulatory, and standards ecosystems, we ensure our research remain aligned with future trends. Guided by human-centred design, we’re demonstrating how decentralized technologies can enable adaptive, intelligent systems for global Honda’s product and service portfolio.
