About Honda R&D

Honda R&D Co., Ltd. serves as the driving force supporting Honda. We have been promoting “basic and applied research on new technologies”, as well as establishing “systems to develop new value by focusing on advanced fields” such as new mobility and robotics. We continue striving to expand our customers’ joy.

Honda Philosophy

The Honda Philosophy consists of the Basic Principle—"Respect for the Individual” and “The Three Joys”—along with the Company Principle and the Management Policies.
It is not only shared as the values by every associate in the Honda Group, but also provides a standard for their actions and decisions, and truly forms the foundation of our corporate activities.

Our Mission

The driving force behind the company’s growth is our philosophy.
Even in R&D, the philosophy of the people who work there takes priority over technological excellence.
We believe that true technology is embodiment of philosophy.
We find the true value of our R&D based on a “global viewpoint,” respecting theory, ideas, and time, and delivering products that bring joy to people all over the world.

Role

Role of Honda R&D

Honda’s driving force is not a “lone genius,” but a collective team, born from a place of free and open R&D, creating the future through technology and passion.

Honda R&D is not merely a place to produce research results. It is an organization that constantly asks, “Why are we doing this?”

History

Honda R&D was established in 1960 as an independent company, separated from Honda Motor Co., Ltd. At its founding, the founders,
Soichiro Honda and Takeo Fujisawa shared a strong vision.
Honda R&D was created as a standalone research organization to develop technologies truly needed by society,
without focusing on short-term profits, and to nurture them carefully over time.
This was Japan’s first innovative move to establish an R&D company that is both financially and organizationally independent.
