Career
Russian-born Daniil Kvyat moved to Italy at the age of 13 to pursue his racing career. He quickly rose through the ranks, competing in Formula BMW and Formula Renault before joining the Red Bull Junior Team. After winning the GP3 Series (now FIA Formula 3) championship in 2013, Kvyat made his Formula One debut with Toro Rosso in 2014 at just 19 years of age.
In 2015, he was promoted to the senior Red Bull team as the successor to Sebastian Vettel. He secured a second-place finish at the Hungarian Grand Prix and ended the season seventh in the drivers’ standings, finishing ahead of teammate Daniel Ricciardo and delivering solid results in his first year with a top team.
Early in the 2016 season, Kvyat was demoted back to Toro Rosso in a seat swap with Max Verstappen. He lost his place on the grid in 2017, but returned in 2018 as a Ferrari test driver, contributing to simulator development. His efforts were rewarded with a return to Toro Rosso in 2019.
That season, at the ever-changing German Grand Prix, Kvyat read the conditions perfectly to finish third. It marked his second career podium and Toro Rosso’s first podium since 2008, as well as Honda’s first podium with Toro Rosso since returning to Formula One in 2015.
Kvyat stepped away from Formula One at the end of the 2020 season. Since then, he has worked as a Lamborghini factory driver, leading development of new hypercar projects. He has also pursued a wide range of activities, including competing as a human representative in exhibition races against AI-developed racing cars, continuing to explore new frontiers in motorsport.
