Career

London-born Alexander Albon chose Thai nationality through his mother, who is from Thailand. He showed promise from his karting days, winning a British karting championship at the age of 10. Albon stepped up to junior single-seaters in 2012, finishing runner-up in the 2016 GP3 Series (now FIA Formula 3). He advanced to FIA Formula 2 in 2017 and finished third in the standings in 2018, underlining his potential.

In 2019, his talent earned him a full-time Formula One seat with Toro Rosso Honda. Midway through the season, after just 12 races, he was promoted to the senior Red Bull team. His consistent performances earned him the Rookie of the Year award.

Albon continued with Red Bull in 2020, securing a third-place finish at the Tuscan Grand Prix—his first F1 podium and the first ever for a Thai driver. He added another third place at the Bahrain Grand Prix later that season. Despite these results, he lost his regular seat at the end of 2020.

In 2021, Albon contributed as Red Bull Honda’s simulator and test driver, playing a key role in car development during Honda’s final season in Formula One, which culminated in a dramatic championship victory. He also acted as an advisor to F1 newcomer Yuki Tsunoda, and his dedication further enhanced his reputation.

His efforts were rewarded in 2022 with a return to a full-time F1 seat at Williams. Even with a car lacking competitiveness, Albon delivered bold, points-scoring drives and became a central figure within the team. In 2024, he signed a multi-year contract extension with Williams. For 2025, he was joined by Carlos Sainz, a driver with experience at multiple top teams, as they worked together to strengthen the team’s performance and cement Albon’s position in Formula One.
