The young Chilean rider has competed three times in the Dakar, in 2015, 2017 and 2020. An up-and-coming yet well-experienced rider, Cornejo has also made his mark in the premier South American rally, the Desafio Ruta 40, and won the 2016 FIM Junior Cross Country Rally World Championship.
Cornejo first joined Monster Energy Honda Team in the 2018 edition to replace injured Paulo Goncalves, and became an instant sensation finishing in the top 10. In 2019 he was officially welcomed into the team, and completed the Dakar in eighth place, two better than the previous year. In the FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship, he finished the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in overall third with two stage wins, and completed the season sixth overall.
In Dakar 2020, Cornejo won Stages 4 and 12, completing the rally fourth, a personal best. He had won as many stages as the 2020 champion, Ricky Brabec.
The 2021 edition will be his fourth Dakar, and he will undoubtedly perform better than before.
