In 2013, he won four stages in the Dakar, and was on the podium in the Morocco Rally.
In the 2014 edition, Barreda outperformed his previous effort, winning five stages. Despite crashing heavily in Stage 7, he had demonstrated his potential to win the event. In the world championship that year, Barreda won in Qatar, finished third in Abu Dhabi, and completed the season third overall.
Barreda rode a strategically-focused 2015 Dakar, and despite losing the chance for overall victory due to salt-caused mechanical issues at the Uyuni salt flat, he still won four stages. In the world championship after that, he won in Abu Dhabi, and finished second in Qatar.
In the 2016 edition, Barreda retired due to engine issues in Stage 6. The following year, he was met with misfortune, with stages cancellations at crucial junctures, but nonetheless won four stages, the top stage winner, and was fifth overall. In 2018, Barreda won Stage 7 despite injuring his knee, but could not keep up the effort and retired. Dakar 2019 saw Barreda win the first stage, but he was to retire two stages later. In the world championship that year, he came third in the Atacama and Morocco rallies, and was fifth for the season.
In a shortened 10 stage Dakar 2020 due to strong winds, Barreda maintained a consistent pace to win Stage 10. He was on the podium three other times, and finished seventh overall.
