IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia rider Somkiat Chantra narrowly misses out on the points by finishing 16th in the Aragon Grand Prix. Teammate Gerry Salim’s first Moto2 race ended disappointingly due to fading rear tire grip.

Somkiat Chantra | IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia (16th)

“I started 18th, and fought with many riders during the race. In the end, I didn’t have grip in the rear tire. It was difficult to keep on fighting. I tried, but before the last lap I made a small mistake, and I lost the chance to score points. A nice weekend, I’m happy. See you in Thailand, my home race!”

Gerry Salim | IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia (29th)

“This was my first race in the Moto2 World Championship. I had a lot of problems during the race. It was difficult for me to ride because during the practice, I didn’t have the pace, and in the race, the rear tire spun a lot, making it difficult to control. I kept trying to fight with Ruiu, I overtake him in the last corners but he passed me again. I would like to thank Honda and IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia to give me this opportunity.”

Hiroshi Aoyama | Team Manager, IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia

“It was not an easy day for both of our riders, but I think they did the best they could at this moment. Chantra had good rhythm this weekend. He has lost time at the beginning of the race in the middle of a big group with a lot of riders. When he overtook Locatelli, he caught up with the riders fighting for points, but it was a little bit late. It’s a pity to finish so close to scoring points because he did a good race. Gerry did not have enough time on this bike, and then he was struggling with tire feel after a couple of laps. This weekend he wasn’t consistent, and this was the reason his rear tire dropped, and he couldn’t keep his pace. I would like to thank him for his cooperation with the team. Next race Dimas is coming up, so we are looking forward to going to Thailand.”
