After a difficult qualifying yesterday, IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia's Somkiat Chantra fought hard in the Moto2 British Grand Prix, gaining confidence lap by lap to finish a very creditable 16th place, just missing out on the points. Teammate Teppei Nagoe once again gained more experience at a difficult circuit for him, finishing the race in 28th position.

Somkiat Chantra | IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia (16th)

"I made a bad start and on the first laps I lost a lot of time and some positions. Throughout the race I gained confidence and in the end the bike was working well, I was able to battle and pass some riders. To finish the race in 16th position I am happy today because I feel I did my best. I am looking to forward to Misano in two week's time. See you in Italy!"

Teppei Nagoe | IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia (28th)

"That was a difficult race! It was a long, tough and hot race at a very difficult circuit. In the first laps I followed the riders in front, trying to learn from them. The lap time I set following them was good, but after 10 or 11 laps the rear tire lost grip and it was difficult for me to manage the tire. I have enjoyed the chance I have been given the last 2 races in Austria and the UK and I wish the team the best of luck for the reminder of 2019. Now I will return to Japan and concentrate on winning the GP2 All Japan championship for Honda."

Hiroshi Aoyama | Team Manager, IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia

"Somkiat at the start of the race struggled to find a good rhythm and lost time on the first few laps of the race. From the middle of the race he gained confidence and by the end of the race his pace was very good, he was closing the gap to the group in front and managed to pass several riders. Unfortunately he missed out on the points, but with a better qualifying next time out in Misano he showed once again he has a lot of talent and can fight further up the field. It's been a difficult weekend for Teppei at a very difficult circuit, it just shows he needs more time to be able to adapt to the bike and tires. The important thing was that he kept pushing all weekend and that he improved in every session. I would like to thank Teppei for his efforts replacing Dimas the last two events and I wish him luck at his next race in Japan in the GP2 All Japan Road race Championship."
