Honda SENSING 360+Predictive Curve Departure Warning

Technology overview

Assisting the driver with safe driving by preventing a roadway departure due to excessive speed while going round a curve

Upon approaching a curve on an expressway, the system alerts the driver and facilitates the early recognition of the curve. When the vehicle is about to enter a curve, the system provides audible warnings based on the traffic situation and the vehicle speed, then it assists the driver in reducing the possibility of a roadway departure at the curve by decelerating the vehicle in two stages.

How it works

The system analyzes the speed at which the vehicle will enter the curve, based on the information on the curve acquired by highly accurate GNSS data. If the system determines that the risk of a roadway departure has increased, it will decelerate the vehicle while alerting the driver.

How it helps

The system detects the curve ahead using information from the Front Sensor Camera and the GNSS and determines the risk of a roadway departure at the curve.

When there is a risk, the system displays the warning in the meter, suppresses acceleration and prompts the driver to recognize the curve.

The system switches the display in the meter to amber color, displays warnings on the Head-Up Display(HUD), provides audible warnings and automatically decelerates the vehicle to prompt the driver to recognize the curve and decelerate.

When the vehicle is about to enter a curve at a high speed, the system displays the “Caution curve ahead” in the meter and suppresses the acceleration and alerts the driver to the upcoming curve.

When the vehicle approaches the curve and reaches the point where the driver must take action to decelerate, the system provides audible warnings and flashes visual warnings on the Head-Up Display, in addition to the warning in the meter, to prompt the driver to decelerate.

When the vehicle further approaches the curve without any driver input for deceleration and when immediate deceleration is required, the system continues providing warnings and automatically decelerates the vehicle to prompt the driver to take action to decelerate.

Commitment of Honda

The purpose of this function is to assist the driver with safe driving by preventing a roadway departure due to overlooking of an upcoming curve. To ensure that the system does not get in the way of the driver’s enjoyment of comfortable driving, the system is set up to stop all warnings when the driver decelerates the vehicle on their own.

The individual functions of the driver-assistive system have limited capabilities (e.g. recognition capability and control capability). Please do not overestimate the capabilities of any function and drive safely while paying constant attention to the vehicle’s surroundings.
A system may not work or perform adequately depending on road conditions, weather conditions and vehicle conditions.

Depending on the model and timing of the market launch of the model, descriptions provided on this page and the actual functions available on customers’ vehicles may be different. For the functions available for each vehicle, please check the owners’ manual of the respective vehicle.
