Technology overview
Assisting collision avoidance by detecting pedestrians and lane markings
The Pedestrian Collision Mitigation Steering System helps the driver avoid colliding with pedestrians standing in the side strip of a road.
The system uses a camera and millimeter-wave radar to detect pedestrians and lane markings. When the user’s vehicle strays from the travel lane of a road and is in danger of colliding with a pedestrian, the system prompts avoidance action by the driver using sounds, a visual warning on the instrument panel, and assistance with steering the vehicle back into the travel lane.
*The Pedestrian Collision Mitigation Steering System is activated when the Road Departure Mitigation System is enabled.

How it works

STEP1
The camera and millimeter-wave radar detect pedestrians in the side strip and lane markings.
Detection of pedestrians and lane markings
STEP2
The system prompts avoidance action by the driver using sounds, a warning on the instrument panel, and assistance with steering into travel lane.

The individual functions of the driver-assistive system have limited capabilities (e.g. recognition capability and control capability). Please do not overestimate the capabilities of any function and drive safely while paying constant attention to the vehicle’s surroundings. A system may not work or perform adequately depending on road conditions, weather conditions and vehicle conditions.
Function is not installed in some areas.
Depending on the model and timing of the market launch of the model, descriptions provided on this page and the actual functions available on customers’ vehicles may be different. For the functions available for each vehicle, please check the owners’ manual of the respective vehicle.
