Technology overview

Assisting the driver in ensuring safety at intersections with poor visibility

Front Cross Traffic Warning is a function where the system uses corner radars to detect other vehicles approaching to cross in front and alerts the driver when there is a risk of a collision with such vehicles. To assist the driver to safely navigate through intersections with poor visibility, when the vehicle is starting from a stop or driving at a low speed, the system notifies the driver of information about vehicles approaching to cross the intersection from the sides and front and prompts collision avoidance actions.

How it works

Preventing collisions by warning the driver of approaching cross traffic

At intersections with poor visibility, two corner radars newly added inside the vehicle's front bumper detect approaching vehicles crossing in front of the vehicle. When the vehicle is at a stop, the system provides “information” to notify the driver of the approaching vehicles. When the vehicle starts moving at a low speed and the possibility of a collision increases, the system provides “warnings” to prompt collision avoidance actions by the driver.

How it helps

The system recognizes approaching cross traffic using the corner radars and predicts the risk of collision with the vehicle.

When there is approaching cross traffic, the system provides the driver with information on the Head-Up Display (HUD).

The system first provides information on the Head-Up Display (HUD) and the navigation screen (Multi-View Camera System). The orange double arrow icon( or ) indicates from which direction the vehicle is approaching to cross in front.
In the unlikely event that the driver is unaware of the vehicle approaching to cross in front and starts the vehicle from a stop or enter the intersection at a low speed, and the risk of a collision increases, the system provides visible and audible warnings (warning pops up in the meter) to prompt the driver to take collision avoidance actions.

Commitment of Honda

It is estimated that the majority (over 80%) of collisions at intersections are caused by a “failure to notice other vehicles crossing.” The addition of radars has made it possible for the system to detect crossing vehicles from a distance and promptly provide the driver with information about potential risks.

The individual functions of the driver-assistive system have limited capabilities (e.g. recognition capability and control capability). Please do not overestimate the capabilities of any function and drive safely while paying constant attention to the vehicle’s surroundings. A system may not work or perform adequately depending on road conditions, weather conditions and vehicle conditions.

Depending on the model and timing of the market launch of the model, descriptions provided on this page and the actual functions available on customers’ vehicles may be different. For the functions available for each vehicle, please check the owners’ manual of the respective vehicle.
