Honda SENSING 360+Exit Warning

Technology overview

Preventing a collision when occupants exit the vehicle

While the vehicle is parked, when the system detects other vehicles passing by from behind in an adjacent lane, it lights up the indicator on the front pillar or side mirror to assist the occupants in recognizing the approaching vehicle. When the system recognizes the risk of a collision between the vehicle door the occupant is about to open/has opened and other vehicles passing by, it flashes the indicator and provides audible warnings to prompt the occupant to stop opening the door.

How it works

Radars installed at the rear corners of the vehicle detect other vehicles such as cars, motorcycles and bicycles passing by. The system lights up the indicator on the side where detected vehicles are passing to alert the driver. Moreover, when the system detects that one of the vehicle’s doors is open and determines that there is a risk of a collision with a passing vehicle if the occupant further opens the door, it will flash the indicator and provide audible warnings.

How it helps

This function provides two-level alerts to the occupants who are intending to open the door to exit the vehicle.
At the first level, before an occupant opens the door, the system lights up the indicator to notify the presence of other vehicles approaching from behind. At the second level, when the door is opened, the system flashes the indicator and provides audible warnings to alert occupants to other vehicles approaching from behind. This function works even when the door is only ajar (slightly open).

This function is activated when the ignition switch (engine start/stop switch) is ON and for a max of 3 minutes after the switch is OFF. The system is capable of detecting not only other cars and motorcycles but also bicycles.

Commitment of Honda

This function was designed to ensure that the driver/occupants can exit the vehicle safely, but also to keep the warnings to the minimum necessary so that such warnings do not cause stress to the driver/occupants.

The occupants do not always exit the vehicle each time when the vehicle is parked. Therefore, the system is designed to light up the indicator in the side mirror without audible warnings when other vehicles are approaching from behind. Only when the door is open and the risk of a collision has increased, the system provides louder audible warnings and flashes the indicator to alert the occupants.

The individual functions of the driver-assistive system have limited capabilities (e.g. recognition capability and control capability). Please do not overestimate the capabilities of any function and drive safely while paying constant attention to the vehicle’s surroundings.
A system may not work or perform adequately depending on road conditions, weather conditions and vehicle conditions.

Depending on the model and timing of the market launch of the model, descriptions provided on this page and the actual functions available on customers’ vehicles may be different. For the functions available for each vehicle, please check the owners’ manual of the respective vehicle.
