Collision Mitigation Braking System(CMBS)<with extended range>

Technology overview

Advanced CMBS with a broader detection range for pedestrians and other vehicles

The Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) is a function where the system provides audible warnings and displays visual warnings when other vehicles or pedestrians are detected, and the system recognizes the risk of a collision when making a right or left turn at an intersection. When the vehicle comes close to the detected objects, the system applies light braking. When the system determines that the likelihood of a collision further increased, it applies stronger braking and assists the driver with collision avoidance and mitigation.

Note: The CMBS is a function that assists the driver with collision avoidance and mitigation. However, the system assists the driver while always giving priority to the collision avoidance actions taken by the driver.

How it works

With the adoption of a wide-angle camera and addition of radar sensors, the system offers a greater safety and peace of mind.

The newly added corner radars and wide-angle front sensor camera enable the detection of other vehicles and pedestrians approaching over a detection range broader than before. The improved performance of the system enables the offering of a greater safety and peace of mind to the customers.

When there is a risk of a collision, the system alerts the driver by providing audible warnings and displaying visual warnings.

Depends on the model, the system displays the warnings using the Head-Up Display (HUD).

The CMBS included in the Honda SENSING uses a camera and radars installed in the front part of the vehicle to detect pedestrians, vehicles in front and oncoming vehicles. When there is the risk of a collision, the system provides audible and visual warnings and apply the brakes.

With the Honda SENSING 360, more sensors were added to broaden the range where system can detect approaching objects. Additional sensors made it possible to detect pedestrians and bicycles crossing the road from the same direction as the vehicle when turning right or left, further assisting the driver in avoiding dangerous situations such as a collision with other road users approaching from behind when making a turn in an intersection.

Commitment of Honda

By seamlessly integrating information from camera and radars, the system instantly determines whether an approaching object is a car or a motorcycle, a pedestrian or a bicycle rider, enabling the system to provide warnings and apply braking at the appropriate time to prevent collisions.

The individual functions of the driver-assistive system have limited capabilities (e.g. recognition capability and control capability). Please do not overestimate the capabilities of any function and drive safely while paying constant attention to the vehicle’s surroundings. A system may not work or perform adequately depending on road conditions, weather conditions and vehicle conditions.

Depending on the model and timing of the market launch of the model, descriptions provided on this page and the actual functions available on customers’ vehicles may be different. For the functions available for each vehicle, please check the owners’ manual of the respective vehicle.
