Technology overview

Assisting the driver to complete smooth cornering

The Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is a function where the system follows the vehicle in front maintaining the pre-set following distance on an expressway. When there is no vehicle in front, the system maintains the preset vehicle cruising speed.

With the Honda SENSING 360, the function of ACC was expanded. While cornering with ACC engaged, the system detects the curvature of the lane and adjusts vehicle speed to assist the driver to complete smooth cornering.

How it works

The front sensor camera detects-lane markings to calculate the curvature of the lane ahead and make adjustments to the vehicle speed for smooth cornering. The Cornering Speed Assist can be activated only when the ACC is engaged, not when the vehicle is being driven manually by the driver.

How it helps

The system uses the front sensor camera to detect the curvature of the lane ahead while ACC is engaged.

Detect the curvature

The system automatically adjusts the vehicle speed while cornering.

The system automatically adjusts the vehicle speed while cornering.

With conventional ACC, when the preset vehicle speed was not appropriate to the curvature of the corner, there was a possibility that excessive lateral G-force would occur as it enters the curve.

Therefore, the driver had to adjust the vehicle speed manually, and then engage ACC again after passing through the curve.

With the Cornering Speed Assist function, when ACC is engaged, the system uses the front sensor camera to detect the curvature of the lane and adjusts the vehicle speed so that the vehicle can complete the cornering without driver input. By reducing the braking operation by the driver during the cornering, the system contributes to the reduction of driver burden.

Commitment of Honda

Honda designed the system to enable the driver to preset the cornering speed – fast, normal and slow – depending on the driver's preference. This makes it possible for the system to meet preference of each driver.

The individual functions of the driver-assistive system have limited capabilities (e.g. recognition capability and control capability). Please do not overestimate the capabilities of any function and drive safely while paying constant attention to the vehicle's surroundings. A system may not work or perform adequately depending on road conditions, weather conditions and vehicle conditions.

Depending on the model and timing of the market launch of the model, descriptions provided on this page and the actual functions available on customers’ vehicles may be different. For the functions available for each vehicle, please check the owners’ manual of the respective vehicle.
